DSCSA Compliance: Track & Trace Setup

ℹ️ Small Pharmacy Exemption

Good news for small pharmacies! If your pharmacy has 25 or fewer full-time employees (licensed as pharmacists or qualified as pharmacy technicians, measured as of November 27, 2024), you qualify for an exemption until November 27, 2026.

This exemption gives small pharmacies extra time to implement DSCSA compliance requirements. However, we strongly encourage you to begin setup now to ensure a smooth transition and avoid last-minute complications.

⚠️ Federal Compliance Requirement

The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) is a federal law requiring pharmacies to receive track and trace documentation (EPCIS files) for every prescription drug transaction.

You must receive EPCIS files from every wholesaler you purchase from, and forward them to your Track & Trace compliance service.

EzriRx is working to simplify this process. We're coordinating with wholesalers to send EPCIS files to us, which we can then automatically forward to your Track & Trace service. However, not all wholesalers have chosen to send files through EzriRx yet. For wholesalers not sending to EzriRx, you'll need to reach out to them directly (via your sales rep) to receive files or request they send them to EzriRx.

How EzriRx Track & Trace Forwarding Works

1

Wholesaler Sends EPCIS

Your wholesaler sends EPCIS files to EzriRx for orders placed through our platform

2

EzriRx Receives & Routes

We receive the files and match them to your orders automatically

3

Forwarded to Your Service

We automatically forward files to your Track & Trace compliance service

✅ Automatic Forwarding

No manual work required. Once configured, EPCIS files flow automatically to your Track & Trace service.

✅ One Connection for All Wholesalers

Instead of setting up separate connections with each wholesaler, you connect once to EzriRx and receive files from all participating wholesalers.

✅ Visibility & Tracking

See which wholesalers are sending files through EzriRx and track your EPCIS file transmission status in your account.

Supported Track & Trace Services

EzriRx works with leading Track & Trace compliance services, including:

  • Advasur
  • Infinitrak
  • LsPedia
  • Inmar RxTransparent
  • Other services - Contact us to add your provider

If your Track & Trace service is integrated with your pharmacy management software (e.g., PioneerRx, Liberty, QS/1), let us know and we'll work with your software provider to enable the connection.

How to Set Up Track & Trace Forwarding

📝 To complete your Track & Trace setup, you'll need to log in to your EzriRx account.

Log In to EzriRx

Step 1: Log In & Navigate to DSCSA Compliance

Once logged in, go to Settings → DSCSA Compliance in your EzriRx account.

Step 2: Select Your Track & Trace Service

Choose your Track & Trace compliance service from the dropdown menu. If you use a different service, select "Other" and provide details.

Step 3: Provide Connection Details

Depending on your Track & Trace service, you may need to provide:

  • FTP/SFTP server details
  • Account credentials
  • API keys or connection information
  • Contact information for your L4 provider

If you're unsure what information is needed, contact your Track & Trace provider or email us at dscsa@ezrirx.com.

Step 4: Check Your Wholesaler Status

In the DSCSA Compliance page, you'll see a list of your wholesalers and their EPCIS transmission status:

  • ✅ Sending to EzriRx - This wholesaler is already set up and sending files
  • ⚙️ Setting Up with EzriRx - Connection is in progress
  • 📞 Sends Direct to Pharmacies - You'll need to contact them directly
  • ℹ️ Not Required - This wholesaler doesn't require EPCIS files

Step 5: Contact Wholesalers Not Using EzriRx

For any wholesalers showing "Sends Direct to Pharmacies", you have two options:

  1. Contact them directly (via your sales rep) and request EPCIS files be sent to your Track & Trace service
  2. Ask them to set up transmission through EzriRx (share the link: dscsa.ezrirx.com/vendor)
